Lextar's Hsinchu headquarters LED manufacturing fab is constructed based on the concepts of green buildings in Taiwan. The site has adopted a water retention technique of green land and permeable pavements, while the surrounding plantations consist mainly of trees and shrubs or bird and butterfly-attracting plants. The depth of the trees is over 1m, while the depth of the shrubs is over 0.5m.
The interior construction material consists of regenerated tiles and floor tiles, while the glass windows adopt micro reflection glass. Furthermore, the interior decoration of the building was minimized, with more than 70% of the ceilings or wall surface not decorated. The ceiling is painted with water-based concrete paint, which bears the green construction material symbol, as well as mineral fiber board and calcium silicate board ceilings. The interior wall surfaces are either left unpainted or are painted with water-based concrete paint. The pipelines are visible, which is convenient for renewal as no interior decoration or structure will be damaged; this enhances the durability of the interior décor materials.
All water consumption facilities in the building adopt equipment that bears water saving symbols or designs in order to achieve the objective of water conservation. The roof of the plant features a rainwater recycling system to compensate for heavy water consumption operations of large-scale development.
In the future, Lextar will replicate the green building concept in the manufacturing site in Suzhou, China, hoping to become the leading eco-friendly manufacturer in the LED industry.
