Lextar to Participate in 2010 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition in China
Lextar Electronics Corporation, a subsidiary of AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) specializing in LED, is to participate in the 2010 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition held at the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex in Guangzhou from June 9 to 12. A series of light emitting diode (LED) lighting applications and packages are to be on exhibit to demonstrate the diversity of LED products and the technical strength of the R&D team at Lextar.
At the exhibition, Lextar will display numerous lighting applications and packages. For lighting packages, Lextar will exhibit various light engines ranging from 4W to 100W, which allow for a much wider applications. From 4W cup lights, 6W bulbs and 10W parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) lights, to 70~100W street light applications, the products can fulfill the customer’s every need. The color rendering index (CRI) of all Lextar products comply with the high industry standard of 80Ra. To meet the varying requirements of lighting color temperature for different occasions and uses, such as shopping center product displays, home lighting, office lighting and restaurant ambience, Lextar provides an entire series of LED products with highly stable color temperature to satisfy the demands.
In packaging technology, Lextar will demonstrate lighting engines using chip-on-board (COB) integrated packaging technology. By using low-power multi-crystal packages, the luminous efficiency of approximately 100 lm/Will (100 lumens per watt) normally requiring high power light engine can be achieved. The technology also has the advantages of effective heat dissipation and long lifetime. In addition, aided by the complete supply chain provided by the BenQ Group, Lextar is one of the few companies in the industry able to offer LED total solution. The total solution, which consists of the LED package and the LED driver, is adaptable for lighting applications of various wattage and lighting fixture design.
In lighting applications, Lextar will exhibit professional lighting applications including flat panel lights and down lights, as well as consumer lighting applications such as LED T8 light tubes and light bulbs. A point worthy of note is that Lextar possesses the technical know-how of panel backlighting from the AUO R&D team. By using the unique mixing bin technology, LEDs of various bins can be effectively mixed and matched so that the LED light tubes emit a natural and even light at an increased yield and a lower cost, which fully manifests Lextar’s advantage of integrated production from upstream to downstream. In addition the cutting-edge packaging technology can increase the LED view angle up to 140o, which achieves a more uniform dispersion of the point-source light while decreasing the number of LEDs used in the light tube, thereby significantly lowering the cost and increasing the efficiency.
According to Lextar president, Dr. David Su, the company is ready to devote itself to the R&D of lighting applications as the LED light market prepares to take off. Aiming at the huge Greater China market, Lextar utilizes an integrated production from upstream epitaxy and midstream chip manufacturing to downstream packaging, in order to provide customers with products from every stage of the production, as well as end products and services for original design manufacturing (ODM) and original equipment manufacturing (OEM), which demonstrates Lextar’s capability in product design. Lextar will set up a production base in Suzhou, China, which will replicate the integrated production model in Taiwan. It is anticipated that mass production will begin in the first quarter of 2011. In addition, 50 MOCVD (metalorganic chemical vapour deposition) equipments will be added to the new site. Along with the number of machines expected to be added to the Taiwan sites this year, it is estimated that the total number of MOCVD machines owned by Lextar will reach around 130 by end of 2011. Lextar will soon launch this production capacity expansion plan to meet the demands of the international market and the vast market in China for LED backlit TFT-LCD panels and LED lighting applications.
The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is Asia’s largest lighting exhibition. In 2010, it will celebrate its 15th anniversary as well as exhibit a wide range of products from LED technology, professional lighting, light sources and lighting control systems, to lighting production equipment and instruments. LED will undoubtedly be a highlight this year. The 2009 show attracted over 1,500 exhibitors from 26 countries, and the number of exhibitors and visitors in 2010 is expected to increase considerably now that the economy has recovered from the financial crisis.
